IN SHORT, SERIAL KILLER SPEED DATING TAKES THE AWKWARDNESS OUT OF ONLINE DATING AND MAKES IT INTIMATE AND PLAYFUL.

In 2015, we discovered that when you throw a Serial Killer (aka “a plant”) into the mix, the awkward tension of a first date – or 10 first dates in a row – disappears quicker than Ted Bundy in a jail cell. And when 2020’s pandemic introduced video dating to the masses, we found a huge crop of like-minded singles who loved the idea of going out for a show and some drinks from the comfort of their own homes.

Serial Killer Speed Dating solves for shyness and swipe-right culture’s lack of intimacy in one fell machete swoop, with a dating game that’s at once private and social. It’s more “Addams Family” than “Manson Family,” and audiences nationwide have fallen in love with the campy, b-horror vibes and effortless format.

HERE’S HOW IT WORKS:

Replace awkward, interview-style first dates with a “gameshow” about serial killers… and you have the idea.

We’ll dip you into private rooms for rapid 1-on-1s between drinks.

all from the comfort of your own home.

1. Zoom Room Opens (5 mins.)

Start with a quick group game to rename daters for privacy, get comfy, and give time for latecomers (not you, of course). Participants open their date sheets (a simple Google Form). Everyone is muted, cameras on. Showtime.

2. First Round of Prizes (5 mins.)

“Zodiac Killer” (winner of the mini-game we just played) and “Arsenic Anna” (Best Cocktail) Awards are given out. The Serial Killer(s) hide(s) in the room… who could it be?!

3. Scene Setting (5 mins.)

Host gives the rules, and it’s time to determine if you’re here to date or going for the grand prize: “Most Likely To Be A Serial Killer Without Actually Being A Serial Killer.” Some people just want to watch the world burn.

4. Round 1 Private Dates (15 mins.)

Oh no, a “Killer” has hacked the room! Rapid-fire, 1-on-1 dates begin. It's time to start asking if the person sitting across from you is someone you’d like to date or a Serial Killer in hiding. Or both? Hey, we don’t judge.

5. Bathroom Break, Group Game (10 mins.)

Use the bathroom and pour another round, it's about to go down. Strut your stuff for the “John Wayne Gacy” (Business on Top, Party on Bottom) and “H.H. Holmes” (Show n’ Tell of your Weirdest Murder Weapon) Awards.

6. Round 2 Private Dates (15 mins.)

Another four dates to find love and/or the “Killer!” Remember: you’ll only date one “Killer,” but you can vote for anyone that seems suspect…

7. Drink Break, Trivia (5 mins.)

Grab one last drink as you attempt to answer serial killer-themed trivia and win the “Dating Game Killer” Award.

8. Final Round Private Dates (10 mins.)

Last two dates and it’s time to cast your ballot! Who do you think is the “Killer,” and who would you like to see again? Remember, you can “like” or call out as many people as you want.

10. The Big Reveal! (5 mins.)

“Black Dahlia” (Best Framing), “John Doe” (Best Chatbox Clapback) Awards and Grand Prize for “Voted Most Likely To Be A Serial Killer…” awarded as the votes are tallied.

10. The Big Reveal! (5 mins.)

The climax of the night: a Zoom Theatre reveal of the actual Serial Killer(s) in the room!

A round of applause, and we leave the room open for a bit, giving you a chance to chat with your fellow non-Serial Killers.

...The Next Day

We match you with mutual “likes” via email, and then let everyone know the matches have gone out. If you weren’t matched this time, all good. Come back and see us again; it seems like several Serial Killers have been popping up in our Zoom rooms these days, so there's always a chance to solve another mystery and hit it off with other like-minded people.

The great thing about speed dating is that it introduces you to a whole new group of people. Maybe you’ll match with someone, maybe you won’t, but overall the response we get most often from attendees is how much damn fun they have at our events, time and again. That’s why we have multiple shows, with varied campy "Killer" stories.

Dating, as you know, is a bit of a numbers game: We can’t guarantee you’ll meet your match at our event, but we can promise you a good time and the chance to get a few “micro-dates” under your belt. The more you date, the more comfortable you get at it, the more you are yourself – which of course will attract people to the authentic You.

Since we take the tension out of “I don't know what to say about myself” and replace it with “OMG is this person the Killer?!” in our events, the vibe is super fun and relaxed. And there’s a show to enjoy. It’s a win-win situation!

And hell, who knows? You might meet your special someone at Serial Killer Speed Dating. Imagine that story when people ask you how you met!!
